Well……I started this penny jar on April 11, 1993 on the day that my granddaughter was born. It took me almost a year to completely cover the bottom of the big jar. By the time my granddaughter was 3 she still could not reach the level of the pennies when she reached her hand in to touch them. She was 5 by the time she could reach them. About 6 years ago I decided to try and count the pennies but was looking for a quick and easy way to do it. I counted out the number of pennies that would fit into a 1 cup measuring cup and then proceeded to “measure” the pennies in the jar. I scooped out all of the pennies using the measuring cup and then multiplied the number of pennies in the cup by the number of cups I had scooped. I “guesstimated” the amount to be $190.00 and the jar was only half full. It is now about 3/4’s full and I was hoping to have it filled by the 20th anniversary but that is probably not going to happen. Oh well…..maybe I can aim for my granddaughter’s wedding day. Since she is not engaged and there is no wedding in the near future….I might just make it.
